What is a Structural Shift?
Normal Structure
In healthcare, there are normal ranges for most bodily functions. These ranges help us monitor our health. We all know there is a normal range for body temperature and blood pressure. When those functions fall outside their normal range, we know something is abnormal.
Structure is no different.
There is not one perfect structure, as people come in many different shapes and sizes. There is, however, a normal range for spinal structure.
Structural Shift
At Premier Chiropractic, the primary condition we focus on is a Structural Shift. A Structural Shift is caused by significant shifting of the spine away from its normal alignment, affecting the spinal nerves and spinal cord associated with those structures.
A Structural Shift may cause neurological Obstructions, which are interruptions in communication within the nervous system. Because the nervous system serves as the body’s electrical communication network, these Obstructions may interfere with the multidirectional flow of nerve impulses between the brain, spinal cord, and body.
Pain is only one possible manifestation of a neurological Obstruction. Many people experience changes in function long before they experience pain. Depending on the nerves involved, neurological Obstructions may contribute to a wide variety of Secondary Conditions throughout the body. They can affect people of all ages, from newborns to older adults.
In most cases, a Structural Shift is the underlying cause of neurological Obstructions. Less commonly, however, a neurological Obstruction may contribute to muscle imbalance, altered movement patterns, or changes in spinal stability that can eventually result in the development of a Structural Shift.
Our Focus
Our office focuses on detecting and correcting a Structural Shift back to within a normal range so the nervous system can communicate more efficiently and the body can function and heal properly.
